‘I like to use my travels to rekindle the emotions and feelings of a particular place; I like to paint with lots of liquid, standing my easel strictly upright to allow the paint to ’trickle’ down the surface. I love to paint in this style, as I feel very energized by the evolving canvas. It is a mixture of excitement and anticipation. I do not often sketch anything; instead I simply dive in feet first with sponges and brushes dipped in large pots of paint and just launch out. I love the freedom of this approach and am pleased with the effects of this technique. I build each layer with broad strokes of colour and form until I feel I have created the atmosphere I want. To keep the piece fresh, I often work on a number of projects at the same time’

ARTIST BIO
Sarah Chandler
Sarah’s many talents include being an artist in inks and other mediums, a professional musician and a composer (film and concert scores). Sarah started painting at three years old. Her raw talent meant that she grasped and developed basic drawing/artistic skills from a very early age. She was encouraged to express herself artistically throughout her school life, with some success, going on to become a competition winner. Being unable to paint in her own style at university, however, led her in another direction. Sarah subsequently became a successful saxophonist, having gained a bachelor's and a master's degree in musical studies and composition.
Sarah currently performs her one-woman saxophone show all over the world. The experience of travelling globally has given her the inspiration for her current painting projects. Working in water colour and acrylic inks Sarah sets up her ‘mobile studio', her cabin, on board ship, and generally manages to paint every day, either when in port or at sea.

When in the UK, Sarah works from her studio at The Twisting Gallery, Sunny Bank Mills Farsley, where she is very much enjoying being involved in the art community.
Owners of Sarah's work include Gary Rhodes, Esther Rantzen and Jack Charlton
